The Symposium: Photography (w)here?
Friday 12th March, 2pm – 6pm.
Our first major event: an afternoon of talks and discussion, exploring some of the pressing issues for contemporary photographers. What new opportunities exists for photographers? What are the pitfalls and how can we sustain our professional practices in the current economic climate? How are new photographic practices being supported and disseminated?
Explore some of these questions and debate the issues with our panel of leading photography curators, editors and practitioners. Opportunities for informal and formal networking in a fabulous historic setting! The event is aimed at freelance photographers and graduates.
Admission to the symposium is free, but booking in advance is essential.
Confirmed symposium participants include: Malcolm Dickson (Street Level Photoworks); Patrick Henry (Open Eye Gallery); Camilla Brown (Photographers’ Gallery); Greg Hobson (National Media Museum); Marc Prust (freelance photography consultant and curator); Susanna Brown (V&A); Lauren Heinz (Foto8) and Sarah Pickering (artist/photographer). The event will be chaired by Alessandro Vincentelli (Curator, Baltic).

Portfolio Reviews Saturday 13th March 9.30 – 2.30
An exciting opportunity for one-to-one conversations with reviewers of your choice: our Portfolio Reviews offer you the chance to present your work to well-known curators and photography editors. Reviewers have been invited because of their knowledge and experience of working with different areas of contemporary photographic practice. Each review will last approximately 20 minutes and booking is essential.
Cost: £5 per portfolio review session. You may book up to a maximum of 4 reviews. When booking, please select reviewers most appropriate to the needs of your practice.
